Magic Sleeve
A DIY magnetic laptop sleeve made from wool felt and neodymium magnets.
Inspired by this product. When I saw it I knew I wanted it, but also wanted to learn how to make one my way. I also wanted to learn how to sew, so it all aligned.
August 2020
Bought natural wool felt sheets and neodymium magnets, had to try a few until I settled on the desired size/strength.
Borrowed my aunt's sewing machine and knowledge. Thanks!
The first version was just a prototype, but I found myself loving to use it. I used some boring color for that one and saved the cool wool for v2.
Observations: Loved to use it more than expected. Lacked consistency.
September 2020
Biggest problem was consistency. Considered adding thicker wool, but it didn't feel enough so I went to my local fabric store with v1 and asked for possible solutions. She suggested a fabric typically used on costumes, also used on shirt collars. Bought it.
Aesthetics: Yellow + dark gray combo. The stitching matches the opposite color on each side — yellow side with gray stitching, gray side with yellow stitching.
